York, PA

York is Magical.

Really. There’s something special here. It’s a quirky little town with a huge heart, and the people who love York really, really love it.

I first fell in love with York, Pennsylvania on February 18th, 2011, the moment I first stepped out of the car onto the blueberry farm I would steward for the next several years.

It turns out that I have a number of ancestral connections to York going back hundreds of years. Maybe my DNA remembered it and felt instantly at home. Who knows?

York has quietly played a pivotal role in the history of our nation more than once. It’s the first place the words “The United States of America” were spoken, for example, and (issues surrounding colonialism aside) where the first national Thanksgiving holiday was celebrated.

It’s also filled with artists, musicians, community organizers, and just so many wonderful, interesting, big-hearted people. I freaking love York.
