The Cube

The Cube is an awesome self-discovery/archetype exploration thingy that can either be a fun party trick or an insightful, deeply personal, life-affirming experience. It’s up to you.

Here’s how you do The Cube:

You’re going to visualize several things, and write down as much detail as you can, before looking at the key to find out what the archetypes represent, and what’s happening in your subconscious/higher self/etc.

The key (below) allows you to extrapolate what your answers represent and can give you some pretty spookyspecific insight into your own psyche.

It’s all quizzyliscious — it can be as deep or as frivolous as you like, because it’s *your* freaking cube.

Ready? Let’s begin.

Picture a desert. This can be a real desert, or one you’ve only been to in your mind.
Describe your desert. What does it look like? What do you notice? How does it make you feel?

Now imagine a cube. It can be absolutely any kind of cube.
Describe your cube. Where is it? What’s it made of? How big is it? How does it make you feel?

What are five adjectives that describe your cube?

Now picture a ladder.
Describe your ladder. What kind of ladder is it? How many rungs are there? Where is it in relation to your cube? How does it make you feel?

Imagine a horse. Any kind of horse.
Describe your horse. What does it look like? What is it doing? Is your horse wearing a bridle or saddle? How does it make you feel?

Now visualize a storm.
Describe the storm. What kind of storm is it? How does it impact the desert, the cube, the ladder, the horse?

Now imagine flowers.
Describe your flowers. What do they look like? Where are they in relation to the cube? Where do they come from? How do they make you feel?

Got all the details written down? You’re done!
You have imagined a scene unlike anyone else’s — your desert and your cube are completely unique, as are you.
Look below for the key to your cube.
(DO NOT SCROLL DOWN UNTIL YOU’VE ALREADY DONE/WRITTEN OUT YOUR CUBE)

Like, really.

Cube Archetype Key:

The desert is your current worldview/how your life feels.

The cube is you. The inner you, the realest you. It may not represent every aspect of you, because who has the kind of time to record that level of detail, but there are insights you can glean form how you see your cube, because it’s an unvarnished representation of how you see yourself (even if your cube is varnished!)

The ladder is your support system — your closest friends and family.

The horse is your ideal partner — in a deep, soulmate sense.

The storm represents the biggest challenges in your life. How the storm impacts the other elements is representative of how your challenges impact you, your worldview and those around you, etc.

The flowers are your creations, your gifts to the world. These can be representative of children, or important life’s work, big dreams realized — all that top-level, why-you’re-here sort of stuff.

Keep track of your cube, so that you can come back to it periodically for self-discovery.
